Bettina WitteVeen is participating with 12 photographic works of her “Hybrid Identities” Series in the Exhibition “Body Art: Marks of Identity” at the American Museum of Natural History (NY, USA) from November 20, 1999 to May 29, 2000.

“Body Art: Marks of Identity” explores the ways in which human beings around the world, past and present, decorate their bodies. Curated by Enid Schildkrout, chair and curator, Division of Anthropology, the exhibition examined the historical and cultural significance behind ancient and modern body art practices including tattooing, piercing, body painting, body shaping or reshaping, henna, makeup, and scarification. The exhibition presents over 600 objects and many images from around the world dating from c. 3000 B.C. to the present, including sculptures, paintings, contemporary and historical photographs, rare books, engravings, and films.
